  11. for Mainstream Business Users

  15. CUPERTINO, California--April 11, 1994--Apple Computer, Inc.
  16. today announced the Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display, a 17-
  17. inch, full-page, color Trinitron display that provides high
  18. screen performance at a competitive price.  With an Apple
  19. price of $1,069 (U.S.), the Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display is
  20. scheduled for availability this month through Apple
  21. authorized resellers worldwide.  This new display joins the
  22. recently introduced Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display in Apple's
  23. family of large screen displays.
  24.      The Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display is designed for use by
  25. business professionals for mainstream office tasks including
  26. presentations, spreadsheet analysis, graphic design, desktop
  27. publishing and word processing.
  28.      "The Multiple Scan 17 Display offers business customers the
  29. benefits of high performance display and the flexibility to
  30. use it on Macintosh or PC computers," said Don Strickland,
  31. vice president of the Imaging and Publishing Division, Apple
  32. Computer, Inc.  "This display is a perfect complement for
  33. Power Macintosh  computers and anyone using desktop
  34. productivity applications."
  35.      Product Features
  36. The Multiple Scan 17 Display features a vertically flat Sony
  37. Trinitron  picture tube for sharp and bright images.  It
  38. comes with anti glare and antistatic screen coatings to
  39. reduce eye fatigue.  High contrast glass provides deeper,
  40. more brilliant colors.  The display can be precisely adjusted
  41. using easily accessible digital controls.  Convenient desktop
  42. ports offer headphone, microphone or mouse/keyboard access.
  43. For accurate color work, the monitor can be adjusted for
  44. three different color temperatures, 5000, 6500 and 9300
  45. degrees Kelvin.
  46.      The new display's multiple scan capability lets users select
  47. the resolution that is best for  specific applications
  48. without restarting the computer.  At higher resolutions,
  49. users can see more information in greater detail.  This is
  50. ideal for page layout.  At lower resolutions, users will be
  51. able to see a magnified view with more colors which is ideal
  52. for multimedia or presentations.  The Multiple Scan 17
  53. Display supports a low resolution of 640x480, a standard
  54. resolution of 832x624, and a high resolution of 1024x768 on
  55. the Macintosh , and from 640x480 up to 1280x1024 on the PC.
  56.      Apple is providing new Display Manager software with the
  57. display that allows resolution switching on Macintosh
  58. computers without restart.  The Display Manager software
  59. includes dynamic support for multiple monitor resolutions.
  60.      The Multiple Scan 17 Display is Energy Star compliant and is
  61. equipped with Energy Saver software for Macintosh that senses
  62. periods of inactivity on the Macintosh computer and allows
  63. the display to use less electricity.  The display is also
  64. compliant with Sweden's strict MPRII guidelines for low
  65. electrical and magnetic emissions.  The new display also
  66. supports ColorSync , Apple's color matching technology,
  67. providing better overall system calibration.
  68.      Compatibility
  69. The Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display offers complete plug and
  70. play compatibility with the Power Macintosh series, all
  71. Macintosh Quadra computers, all Macintosh Centris computers,
  72. any system using the Macintosh Display Card 24AC, and all
  73. IBM-PC compatible computers.
  74.       The Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display works with other Macintosh
  75. systems and display cards using a cable adapter available
  76. from Enhance Cable Technology, San Jose, California.
  77. Resellers and customers who want to connect a Multiple Scan
  78. Display to an 8.24 card, Macintosh II, PowerBooks or Duo

  81. Apple plans to make the Apple Multiple Scan 17 Display
  82. available in April 1994 through Apple authorized resellers
  83. worldwide.  For further information, customers in the United
